Tourism Organization Becomes the Second in Oregon to Attain Designation
BEAVERTON, ORE. (March 24, 2010) — The Washington County Visitors Association (WCVA) announced today that it has been awarded accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP). DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by the Washington, D.C.-based Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), a leading organization for destination marketing organizations (DMOs).
In earning the DMAP accreditation, DMOs communicate to their audiences that their DMO has attained a significant measure of excellence.
“It is an honor and a great achievement to receive destination marketing accreditation from DMAP,” said Ruthie Reinert, president and CEO of the WCVA. “This designation is not only a testament of the hard work and dedication of the WCVA staff, but to our organization’s commitment to adopting the best business practices and service excellence in accordance with international standards and benchmarks in the tourism industry.”
To become accredited, a DMO is required to provide evidence of compliance with 54 mandatory standards and 33 voluntary standards. The standards cover a broad range of topics including governance, finance, technology, brand management, destination development, research and market intelligence, and more.
Currently, 160 DMOs have attained accreditation through this program.
“By applying for and receiving DMAP accreditation, the WCVA has demonstrated a commitment to quality programs and services,” said Diane Lawson, FCDME, DMAP Board Chair. “We are proud to recognize these organizations for their achievement.”
The WCVA is the official destination marketing organization for Washington County, Oregon, and is the second DMO in the state to earn DMAP accreditation. Corvallis Tourism, in Corvallis, Oregon, earned the first such accreditation in the state in 2008.
