Washington County Visitors Association Awards a Total of $3,000 in Prize Money

BEAVERTON, Ore. (January 12, 2010) – Four lucky, local photographers were selected as the winners of the Washington County Visitors Association’s (WCVA) Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route photo contest. Winners, whose images best represent Washington County’s agricultural- and wine-focused scenic drive, will share a total of $3,000 in prize money.

Taking top honors as the grand prize winner is Christopher Pokorny of Portland, Ore., for the photograph titled, “Tiller Curves.”
Pokorny’s image, an artistic conceptualization of a tractor tiller, “knocked everyone’s socks off,” according to Ann Majeski, who served on the judging panel and is senior account executive with Citrus, one of Oregon’s largest brand strategy, design and advertising companies.

First place winners also were announced in four additional categories: wine, agriculture, nature and history:

• Wine: Cailyn Andreasen (Tillamook, Ore.), “Tualatin Estate”
• Agriculture: Sandy Pokorny (Portland, Ore.), “Here’s Looking at You”
• Nature: Joel Zak (Albany, Ore.), “Washington County”
• History: Christopher Pokorny (Portland, Ore.), “Grossen”

A total of $3,000 in prize money will be awarded, including $1,000 for the grand prize winner and $500 each to the first-place finishers in each of the four categories. All images that were submitted to the competition may be used in the WCVA’s marketing efforts. However, all entrants will retain ownership and rights to future use of their photographs.

The competition was open to photographers of all skill levels. A total of 272 photographs were submitted to the contest, which ran from April 15 – Dec. 15, 2009. Each photograph was scored on its originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. To qualify, images were required to be taken along the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route.

Initial round of judging was performed by the WCVA, with the final winners in each category chosen by a panel of judges selected by the WCVA’s branding and creative agency, Citrus.
