Meetings the Way Mother Nature Intended

The WCVA proudly hosted an event at L.L. “Stub” Stewart State Park Wednesday, June 9, 2010, as part of our monthly “Westside Spotlight” series.  We gathered in one of the cabins in the Mountain Dale Cabin Village, which is used primarily as a meeting/event facility and is truly a beautiful place to meet.

There's plenty of meeting space at Stub Stewart!

Surrounded by forested hills and amazing views of the Oregon Coast Range, the setting at L.L. “Stub” Stewart State park is truly stunning.  The best description I can give of the view is to reference the title of the 1970 Vincent Minnelli film, “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.”  As I stood on the porch of one of the rentable cabins, that film title just kept going through my mind.

In the group-use cabin, there’s a full kitchen, two grills on the patio, tables, chairs, public restrooms, etc.
It’s a terrific place to hold a meeting for up to 50 people in a retreat-type environment, and it’s just 40 minutes from Beaverton, where our office is located.  From the group-use cabin, there are trails that lead to the day-use facility, where the plentiful supply of picnic tables and even more spectacular views would be a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch with your group.

The view is stunning from all lookout points at Stub Stewart.

If you choose to make your meeting multiple days and attendees wanted to stay overnight, there are several options available at the park.  Small, rustic one- and two-room cabins, each with its own fire pit, are the closest sites to the group-use facility. Tent sites and RV spots are not too far.  (See Angie Marsh’s blog post titled “A Cozy Cabin Stay at Stub Stewart State Park” for a more detailed description of the lodging options.)

Looking to do a group energizer? Well, how about a small hike to get the blood flowing?  A variety of trails for hiking and biking are easily accessible,  including the trailhead for the Banks Vernonia State Trail.

L.L. “Stub” Stewart State  park opened in July 2007 as the first new state park in Oregon in more than 30 years, and is an out-of-the-box idea for a small meeting in one of Oregon’s most breathtaking settings.  The magnificent views alone are worth the trip. And for you tech junkies out there, my 3G phone worked perfectly.
