Committees

The WCVA has four volunteer committees, each of which provide assistance and advice to the WCVA Board of Directors and the WCVA staff regarding areas relevant to the organization’s work. Committee members volunteer their time and expertise. They are also encouraged to serve as community ambassadors and advocates in their respective fields.
Nature Committee
Mission:
- Provide direction in planning and developing activities and resources that will encourage visitation to Washington County for the purposes of wildlife viewing, bird watching and outdoor recreation
- Identify key natural assets in Washington County and complete an inventory of places to view wildlife throughout Washington County, which may include a bird inventory and stories about wildlife
- Develop a comprehensive database of supporters and organizations to support the committee’s work and goals
Vineyard & Valley Scenic Tour Route Advisory Committee
Mission:
- Provide ongoing leadership and oversight of the Vineyard & Valley Scenic Tour Route
- Provide direction in planning, funding and installing enhancements and interpretive features as outlined in the Vineyard & Valley Scenic Tour Route Corridor Management Plan
Sports Committee
Mission:
- Assist in promoting Washington County as a desirable destination for sporting events, which includes marketing the numerous sports facilities and organizations in the area
- Provide input on the WCVA’s marketing and promotional activities relating to sporting events
- Establish a local volunteer base and supply of officials necessary to support sporting events
Grant Committee
Mission: During the 2008-2009 fiscal year, the WCVA Board of Directors established the Tourism Development Fund as recommended in the 2015 Strategic Plan. The sole purpose of the Fund is for the development or promotion of emerging events, activities and other tourism-related attractions in Washington County. To be considered for funding, projects must have the potential to attract and draw tourists from at least 50 miles outside of Washington County and the Portland Metro area, thereby increasing visitor spending in the local economy.
