Scenic Bikeway

Introducing the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway

At a meeting May 8, 2013, in Baker City, Ore., the Oregon Parks & Recreation Committee officially APPROVED the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway and is now Oregon's 10th designated scenic bikeway!

The WCVA and its Scenic Bikeway Committee, comprised of representatives from biking and community groups throughout the region, have been working together to bring a new tourism asset to Washington County: The Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway.

This 50-mile bikeway, which incorporates the Banks-Vernonia State Trail and scenic paths along mostly rural roads within the county, was recently officially recommended by the Oregon Scenic Bikeway Committee, as part of its scenic bikeways program--the only one of its kind in the United States. Once a management plan is completed, it will be ready for official designation by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission.

These bikeways represent the "best of the best" road bicycle riding on existing roads and paved paths in Oregon and show off Oregon's mountains, farmlands and historic places. The route, once it is finalized, will be mapped online and directional signage will be installed with all the information required to plan a one-day trip or a multi-day adventure. To date, nine scenic bikeways have been designated. The routes showcase Oregon's natural environment and stunning scenery. Descriptions can be found online. Read more about the bikeway on our consumer website.

The Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway will bring many benefits to Washington County, including attracting visitors and increasing visitor spending, providing new recreational options to visitors, and positioning Washington County as a premier biking destination in Oregon.
